Interstitium is an conceptual photography series exploring the climate crisis and how human activity impacts waterways. In this project, I captured photographs at 500m intervals along with River Aire in Leeds; this systematic method was used to give an unbiased view of the river. River water and soil samples were collected at each photo site. The print of each photograph was then soaked in the collected samples for 36 hours, and finally scanned to create digital copies. These digital copies form the final series.
The idea in this series is to explore the way pollution found in the area interact with each print. This not only reveals the invisible effects of pollutants, but symbolises the impact of humans and the climate crisis on our local environments.
